During Potions class with Professor Snape, Harry is humiliated when his moonstone essay is returned with a grade of “D” (Dreadful). Snape mocks Harry and the rest of the class for their poor performance, stating that the grades are indicative of their potential O.W.L. scores. Malfoy takes the opportunity to taunt Harry.
